Lanao Election Forecast, Dirty as Usual

Lanao Sur and Marawi elections are the most controversial, the frauds committed having been exposed before Senate and Congressional hearings. No election officer has yet been jailed. Those names stated in the GARCI tapes are still in their electoral posts. No reforms yet being done. Prospective congressional,  gubernatiorial, and mayoralty candidates next year have still to mobilize millions of pesos for buying votes.
Echoing this cynicism are some local analysts like former MSU official Yusoph Latiph who says it will be a hot election, with massive fraud both at the national and local. The opposition which has gained leverage because of the perceived unresolved “cheating” case by the administration will put up a stiff fight. Alignment with the administration is then not being sought for by local candidates, as they usually do.

Gubernatorial aspirants include incumbents and kingpins. Incumbents have the advantage in the sense of patronage from the local governments dependent on the ira. But contenders have the advantage of providing alternative platform.

Projecting development-mindedness, former MNLF leaders congressman Benasing Macarambon (2nd district) and 2-time Mayor Omar Solitario Ali, both from OMPIA party, the local religious party with standby machinery and a following will slug it out with incumbent Governor, fellow OMPIA member, Governor Aleem Bashier Manalao, who relies on the Mustaqbal, a women’s group, which claims a 50,000 membership. Son of former Governor Mamintal Adiong , a LAKAS party stalwart, and former Administrator Engr. Bombit Adiong is vying to get his dad’s LAKAS party anointment  from the national. Other names floating are former Governor Saidamen Pangarungan, a lawyer and Rep. Faisah Dumarpa, the lone lady in Maranao provincial politics.

The more candidates there are, the more the votes would be divided, leaving a strong incumbent in the governor. But Manalao has to contend with grumbling casual employees , some of who have filed administrative complaints , for lack of salary payments. Last November, a room in the Governor’s Palace  was shot, forewarning of violent reactions against this administration.

In the meantime, a few local groups are mobilizing clean election campaigns attached to internationally-funded programs such as the Citizens Care for ARMM Elections and Maradeca NGO, which hold surveys on good governance. Jokingly in one forum of the Maradeca, one of the cynical participants said local politics is all about IRA – immediate relative allotment , dramatized in the statement that the Muslims' testimony , that there is only one God, has become rairahairrara (Ira is declared the most important thing of all) .  Other coined terms to describe local politics were inspired by the names of local sweets – PASTIL – or pasteal , steal, TAMUKUNSI – or kakunsi kunsi (connivance), DUDUL or kadudu (taking money) or TANG – tangni (begging).

Politics is supposedly about good governance. One aleem reminds the need to reexamine the ways in which we vote people to office. The criteria must be that he has fear of God and has competence. It would pay for local clans, to rethink a thousand times, if they would get involved in the dirty world of politics as it is now.

Mr. Chairman, honorable congressmen, I h
I'm not here in any official capacity. But I have come to testify about Islamic fundamentalism, which is a term that many Muslims resent. But it has come here to describe a new phenomena that is sweeping the Muslim world and that's now visible in Africa, as opposed to the dormant, traditional Islamic society which is oblivious to religion except as private practice. This renewed spirit of Islam is represented by a sharper consciousness of identity, a revived faith, a reformed personal and social conduct, a liberal intellectual attitude, and increased socio-political activism seeking to close the gap that separates the condition of Muslim society and its ideals of Islam..And it should be seen as an integral movement for general social change rather that a mere personal or political reform movement..all the Muslim countries have witnessed an evolution from an early phase of nationalism, which was very relevant for national independence, and then a phase of authoritarian socialism. And when socialism failed to fulfill its promise, elites first and then the masses generally came to look to Islam as a way of life and of advancement.
Political elites, civilian and military, are increasingly embracing this new spirit of Islam, because the process started much earlier on the Nile Valley. You saw perhaps the first manifestation of Islam. And there was an early attempt to go public and to impact on political life but this was met with an immediate repressive reaction. And consequently these movements now confine themselves to the modern sector where they are relatively immune from repression, and because the modern sector is more responsive perhaps to the spirit of renewal.
The normal evolution of Islamic revival would begin with an intellectual phase where classical literature is rediscovered, where contemporary writings proliferate, and then small groups will start organizing and working for Islam. It's only when the movement has matured that it would develop a popular dimension. It has been given an impetus by the development of mass communications. It's more obvious where there are free elections. And the recent interest of the world media in Islam has also perhaps been a factor in the development of this spirit.

the Politics in Marawi city
I have so many questions, which this question is address to our incumbent governor. but unfortunately, I have no chance to ask this questions diretly to him. I am aware about what is happening right now in our homeland because if we try to observe and see it in reality, we have no good leaders, they are grafters, spoilsmonger, influence peddler!. they have no mercy to the poor people! Politicians have poor reputation. :cry. as a politicians your suppose to render good services to your fellow citizen not to make their lives worst. Our current situation right now is deteriorating. we have to vote wisely in order to have a good leader a "STATESMAN" that we admire because not all politicians are bad or grafters. moreover, we have this diffrent interpretations about politics. they are some people interpret tha politics as a form of conflict or struggle trying to achieve their different goals and opposing interests. we have to wake up! we don't need to be blind and deaf! we have to find a way on how can we solve this problem because if we dont still move and fght for our right it has really big effect to the next generation. I am sportman although I am nearest relatives of our governor and my family is politicians well I don't care! :p

KANDATO O MGA KALALAGAN
O Muslim Politicians! Ponder upon the speech of Abu Bakr as-Siddique (may Allah be pleased with him) when he was chosen as khalifa (successor) of Prophet Muhammad (saw) He said:

?O people! I have been put in authority over you and I am not the best amongst you. So if I do the right thing, then help me and if I do wrong, then put me straight. Truthfulness is a sacred trust and lying is a betrayal. The weak one among you is strong as far as I am concern until I restore to him his right insha?Allah, and the strong one of you is weak until I take what is due from him, insha?Allah. No people forsake the struggle in the way of Allah but that Allah afflicts them with humiliation. Nor does indecency ever spread among the people but that Allah envelops them in punishment. Obey me as long as I obey Allah and His messenger, and if I disobey Allah and His messenger, then you do not owe me obedience. Stand up for your prayer and may Allah have mercy upon you.?

O Muslim Politicians! ?Umar bin al-Khattab ar-Faruq (may Allah be pleased with him), the successor of Abu Bakr as-Siddique, reminded us of the three aspects of being khulafa (representatives) of the Muslims. First of all, it is pleasurable because of the power, privilege and influence; secondly, it becomes culpability because of the wrong actions brought about by the misuse and abuse of such power, privilege and influence; and thirdly, it becomes accountability and source of grief in the Day of Judgment when the khulafa will account before Allah.

O Muslim Politicians! Fear Allah! Remember that there is reward and punishment as well as there is paradise and hell. Be aware that Allah said:
?Everyone shall taste death. And only on the Day of Resurrection shall you be paid your wages in full. And whoever is removed away from the fire and admitted to Paradise, he indeed is successful. The life of this world is only the enjoyment of deception (a deceiving things).?(Al-Imran 3:185)

O Muslim Politicians! The ummah is in dire need of a just leader whose priority is to protect not only his own safety but also the security of the old and the weak against the abuse of the strong and influential; a selfless-conscientious leader who will uplift not only his own interest but the quality of life of more than 90% impoverish and under-develop Muslim community in the south and elsewhere; a compassionate leader who will deliver goods and services not only to his close kin and few chosen friends but right on the doorsteps of all his constituency; an upright leader who is prepared to face not only his political adversaries but also willing to fight corruption in governance, proliferation of drugs, and other evil vices that destroy our Muslim youth; a God-fearing leader who will strive to establish not his own influence to stay longer in power but to institute shari?ah as the basis of governance and adherence to Prophet Muhammad (saw) has said; ?Follow my sunnah and the sunnah of the righteous guided khulafa after me? and lastly, an unblemished leader who is willing to be questioned and face accountability not only to his own party affiliation but to the electorates he has sworn and pledged to serve.

O Muslim Politicians! If these virtues are not among your qualities, then, we only complain to Allah alone, the One Who Hears and the One Who will send the leader we are asking for. As Allah azza wajal promised the believers: ??And if you turn away (from Islam and the obedience to Allah), He will exchange you for some other people and they will not be your likes.? (Muhammad 47:38)

We ask Allah to make us, by His grace, among those who enter perfectly in to Islam. May Allah bless His slave and Messenger Muhammad and his family and Companions, and grant them peace.
